our mission

Greenhut Artist Residency’s mission is to provide time, space, community, and support to emerging artists, writers, and scholars in a rural New England setting.

Greenhut exists to hold space for artists to create, contemplate, and connect.

our values
  • Our cohorts are intentionally small and cultivated with the hope that our residents will develop connections that will live on beyond the length of the program. Greenhut encourages the exchange of ideas and supports artistic collaboration whenever possible.

  • We believe that to be an artist is to be a lifelong learner. We provide curated programming to support the professional development of our residents. We are also dedicated to promoting a sense of curiosity within our local communities through offering public art lectures and workshops.

  • The ten acres of grounds provides ample space for communing with nature, providing quietude for deep, personal reflection on your practice. Our location is unique in its proximity to major cities, while retaining a feeling of isolation in the woods.

  • There are no prerequisites to apply to our program. If you feel that your craft can benefit from Greenhut, we welcome your participation.

  • Greenhut Artist Residency includes a minimum two instances for residents to share their craft with the public: Open Studios and the end-of-cycle exhibition. We believe that sharing your work with people beyond your cohort is essential for communicating with audiences beyond the “art world” community, and a great opportunity to explore how your work is interpreted by others.

Greenhut is rooted locally and outward-facing. We host:

  • Open Studios for the public each session

  • Curated lectures and panels

  • Partnerships with FiveSparks, Rose Art Museum, and more
